Talea has been sleeping for 412 days. While her body remains in the cradle, her deepest part, the humus, inhabits the land of sleep. In this elsewhere, she experiences the pure essence of things: sincere care, and frightening fear, but while asleep she discovers that fear can be transformed. She learns that amid rummaged clods and broken roots, it is still possible to glimpse hope. A hope that is not ideal, but concrete: that it can still envision its own future, like a seed, which must open in two to take root and sprout. After all, what is needed? Just a few inches of land.
