Steps tells the story of Abdon Pamich, an Istrian-Dalmatian Italian exile as a child and an Olympic gold medalist as a man. On the starting line are the strongest long-distance runners in the world - there, Abdon's eyes meet the eyes of Hungarian runner Istvan Havasi, and Pamich flashes back tothe night of 23 September 1947, when he had to flee his hometown Fiume together with his brother Giovanni.
