The play is an adaptation of Morpurgo’s novel Private Peaceful, which is set during the First World War. Through the performance, the words of Tommo – the protagonist – materialize and are translated into action within a symbolic space that is designed for remembrance.
In the space of one night, as if in a stream of consciousness, Tommo remembers his brother Charlie, who, although absent from the scene, is a crucial participant in this imaginary dialogue.
The intimate confession of the bond between the two brothers – from their childhood to the shared experience of the atrocities of the war – is the linchpin of the whole story.
