“...The forest of no is sprouting again. I will fight it with every yes, every gift, every positive, generous act of self-surrender that I possess.
Patricia Highsmith, diaries
Mia is fifteen and lives in a forest unlike any other: the Forest of No, dense with trees whose gnarled, jagged canopies prevent her from seeing beyond its boundaries. Always alone with herself, the girl is sad and often weeps, inconsolable.
Until one day, the forest decides to create a companion for her: Bella, a kind of enchanting fairy, almost ethereal in both appearance and presence. Mia is overjoyed to finally have someone to talk to and confide in, but she soon realizes that Bella is not truly her friend. Whenever Mia asks to leave the forest, Bella always says no—that it cannot be done, that she is not ready.
An unexpected encounter between Mia and the Boy from the Sea—a brave stranger who has managed to enter the forest—will change the girl’s life forever, bringing with it that small “yes” that will lead her out, and back to the sight of the sky.
