Riccione Award for New Generations Playwriting: Short Readings of the Finalist Texts

In 2025, at the 58th edition of the Riccione Prize for Theatre — Italy’s most prestigious award dedicated to playwriting — a new section is launched for younger generations: the Riccione Award for New Generations Playwriting, conceived by Federica Iacobelli. This initiative places the dialogue between contemporary playwriting and young audiences at its core, and is dedicated to plays for children and young people aged 7–11 and 12–15. Developed from the experience of Segnali, the new award has stood out since its debut for its wide participation and the high quality of the works submitted, confirming the vitality of theatrical writing for children and adolescents.

The readings presented in this event offer a glimpse of three of the five finalist plays: C’era il bosco by Roberta Ferrari, Idda. Storia di un filo by Mariasole Brusa, and Baba Cloanța by Benedetta Pigoni, winner of the award’s first edition. The selection is completed by Galassia Annika by Simona Gambaro and La foresta dei no by Giuliano Scarpinato, both already staged at the festival on the same day as their debut.
